Red Panda Class - Year 2
Teacher : Miss Addison
Teaching Assistants: Miss Wright and Mrs Gibbons
Welcome to the Red Panda Class page. We will keep you updated with all our fantastic learning over the academic year.
Academic Year 2024-25
English
In English, we are reading the book: The Owl Who was Afraid of the Dark.
In our first lesson, we researched information about Barn Owls.
During our Sentence Stacking lessons, we use images from the story to help us write our own descriptive versions of the story before we plan and write our own stories about an animal who is scared of something.
Please look forward to some photos of our Experience Days in future lessons.
We will share some of our writing here as well.
Maths
In Maths, we are learning about measuring length.
We have learnt how to measure in cms using a ruler and in ms using a metre stick or measuring tape.
We are practising our 2, 5 and 10 times tables by watching:
We play on Hit the Button as often as we can to test our speed and accuracy in recalling our multiplication facts.

Reading Books
Please help to encourage your child to read at home as often as possible. They can read their Little Wandle Guided Reading books, their Reading for Pleasure books, a book from home, recipes, magazines etc.
Please record and sign when you have read with your child or seen them reading independently at home.
PE Days
Our PE days in Spring Term are Mondays and Thursdays.
On these days, please make sure children are:
- wearing PE kits,
- have suitable footwear for PE (trainers/plimsolls/pumps),
- have long hair tied up,
- have earrings removed or taped.
Spellings
Spellings will be glued into reading records on a Friday to be practised at home for a spelling test the following Friday.
Scores from each test will be recorded so you can celebrate your child's hard work and success at home.
Year 1 and 2 Common Exception words will be practised throughout the year as well.
Autumn Term 2
Autumn Term 1
Academic Year 2023-24
Computing - Word processing
We have been using word processing to become more familiar with using a keyboard. We are now confident highlighting text and changing its size and font style.
Science - Living Things: Habitats
The class were extremely enthusiastic about making videos to explain the six life processes: movement, nutrition, sensitivity, growth, reproduction and excretion. They wrote their own scripts, decided which part they were saying and added actions and props to enhance the information.
History - Significant people: The Wright Brothers
To help us write about how people felt when the first flight happened, the children pretended to be either Wilbur Wright, Orville Wright or an eye witness and we used the technique freeze framing to hold their reaction so we could discuss them.
