Eagle Class - Year 6

Summer term
This term, in Eagle Class we have a wide range of exciting learning as well as making sure we prepare our Year 6 children ready for their chosen secondary school.

| English |
This term we will cover a range of genres, including letter writing, poetry and script writing. The aim of each English unit is to consolidate learning from this year and make sure each child is thinking carefully about how they are writing and what they are including. |
| Maths | This term we will be securing knowledge of mathematical concepts previously taught this year as well as extending children's knowledge to best prepare them for Year 7. This includes compass work, calculator work and statistics. |
| Science | Our science knowledge delves into evolution and how scientists believe all living things have evolved over time. We carefully look at the term 'natural selection' and look at evidence of this happening in the wild. |
| Geography | Fieldwork investigation. This term, children will look at possible problems in their local area and, through fieldwork, collect data to show the problem and also suggest a possible solution. |
| PE | We continue to swim this term and look at our hand-eye co-coordination skills in rounders. Alongside this, children will also prepare for sports day. |

Islam How do Muslims show they belong? |
| Computing | A skills showcase, where children will get to draw upon all their knowledge to create a new product. |
| PSHE | To be ready for Year 7 our children will explore many aspects of citizenship, from caring for others through to diversity and understanding how the British government operates. |
| Art | Our art this term will look at photography and sculpture, as children use both elements of art to showcase memories of their primary school life. |
| DT | Children will explore food this term and create a three-course menu which looks to incorporate healthy eating. |
| Music | Alongside brass lessons, children will be listening to and appreciating different musicians. |
Spring term
This term in Class 6 we have a wide range of exciting learning.

| English | We will be looking at a short narrative based on the text 'A monster calls' which will see children write about courage and suspense. We will also be writing a non-fiction newspaper report based around a well-known fairy-tale. Alongside our English writing we will also be focusing on many grammar and punctuation aspects to make sure children's writing is cohesive and high level. |
| Maths | Alongside our normal maths topics, we will be focusing on arithmetic and word problems in preparation for SATs. Maths topics this term will be: measurement, percentages, ratio, algebra, graphs, area and perimeter, volume and geometry. |
| Science | In science, we are learning about energy. The first part of this term will be focused on light and how light travels as well as how we see, with the second part of the term focused on electrical circuits. |

Magistrates in our community
Class 6 had a wonderful workshop delivered by magistrates in our community. They learnt about the role of a magistrate, how a magistrates court is set up and finally role played a scenario.
